OCTOBER MUSINGS

Seasonal stories and notable happenings from the team behind Ochre Botanical Studios.

Thank you for joining us here!

Working the way we do has encouraged and given us the opportunity to build meaningful connections with many other creatives and individuals who inspire us. From fellow florists and artists to growers and other small businesses who share our love of nature and seasonality, we’ve fortunately found a community rooted in support, solidarity and shared values. It’s so comforting to know what drives others aligns so closely with what lies at the heart of our own work. When Becky from Erda Botanicals (Becky is based on the Lancashire – Cumbria Border) mentioned that she was on tour and coming to Scotland, there were jumps of joy all around.

Becky is someone who you feel an air of calm with as soon as you are surrounded by, a lot like nature itself. And Wilma (Becky’s doggy) – we all adore Wilma. We were absolutely thrilled to see Becky and Wilma earlier this month and enjoy a restorative and inspiring day of walking, observing, gently gathering and creating together.

It is often incredibly peaceful and powerful to switch off and truly observe nature in the moment. Our moments were found on the cycle network and interlinked woodland pathways we’re so fortunate to have around Edinburgh. Wonderful quieter green routes weaving through an often busy city providing a habitat for wildlife and nature lovers. We found ourselves quietly wandering and we each collected lovely things – twirly vines, arching small branches, fallen leaves, grasses, mushrooms, hips and teeny tiny cyclamen to name a few of the treasures.

After a slow potter, we headed back to the studio for some tea and time creating with our collected botanicals and importantly, with each other. It was also time for Wilma to have a well earned snooze. We created small versions of October, as we each saw it on our walk, each inspired by different things along the way.

Although individuals might be geographically distant, the supportiveness to each other is felt close and consistently. We’re ever so grateful for this community, and it’s always a highlight to meet up and share the quiet slower moments together.

Thank you to Becky and Wilma for a lovely day xx
