Seasonal stories and notable happenings from the team behind Ochre Botanical Studios.
Thank you for joining us here!
As the year draws to a close, it’s natural—and rather popular—to reflect on how it all went.
2024 was a busy year for us here at Ochre, full of highs, lows, lessons learned, challenges, joys, and everything in between. For this issue of Musings, I asked the team to share their highlights from the year, and honestly, we’re so lucky—it’s been tough to narrow them down!
We started the year with an open day at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Open Day, where we had complete creative freedom to choose any colour scheme and style we wanted. There were plenty of eggy daffs —our favourites!
Weddings make up the majority of our work, and they’ve given us countless highlights this year. Choosing just one feels impossible, so I’ve included some standout images for you to enjoy instead.
2024 also marked the birth of the Edinburgh Flower Hub aka Scottish Flower Grower Collective, a wholesale hub providing exquisitely grown, sustainable, Scottish flowers to dedicated floral designers in and around Edinburgh. This innovation has streamlined the process of sourcing blooms from fellow local growers—an essential step when fulfilling the carefully curated colour palettes for our weddings. We’ve loved being part of it and can’t wait for its return with the 2025 growing season!
When we reflect on the year’s highlights, one theme shines through: the power of working together. This collective exists for a reason, and we’re constantly reminded of why it works so well. One standout moment was a luxurious wedding at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in July. While it was hectic and required some serious logistical planning on my part as the lead, having the whole team’s support made it such a joy.
I can’t end this newsletter without touching on something more personal but very much at the forefront of my mind. On Christmas Eve, my family and I said goodbye to Snoop, our beloved Labrador, just shy of his 13th birthday. He lived the most wonderful life with us, thoroughly spoiled—as all dogs should be—and his absence has left a deafening hole in our lives. He will be heartbreakingly missed.
Please give your pets an extra squeeze and a treat from me.
“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
I hope you all have a happy new year when it comes, and if you’re maybe a little sad like me, remember Hogmanay is just another day and you’re allowed to hibernate through it if you need to.
Until next year…
